Halitosis, as it’s sometimes referred to, can be caused by a number of issues, with the most common being a build up of bacteria and food particles. Other bad breath causes include certain foods, habits (like smoking), medical conditions, and cavities.

Step Up Your Oral Hygiene
Brushing your teeth twice a day, and flossing once a day can help to reduce the bacteria that causes bad breath. You may also want to consider brushing and after each meal to ensure left-over food particles don’t sit too long.
Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of water is not only beneficial for overall health, but it can combat bad breath as well. Water helps to stimulate saliva production, which in turn helps wash away bacteria and food that may be stuck in your teeth. It also helps you avoid dry mouth, which can not only be uncomfortable, but will amp up bad breath.
Use a Tongue Brush or Scraper
Bacteria love to congregate on the tongue, especially in the back. Lightly brushing or scraping your tongue with a toothbrush or specialized tongue scraper will remove a lot of the stinky residue and improve your breath. Just be sure to rinse with water or mouthwash afterward.
Avoid Certain Foods
We all know that garlic and onions are the biggest culprits when it comes to foods that cause bad breath, but they’re not alone. Other foods (and beverages) that can cause folks to back up include: dairy, spicy food, peanut butter, fish, coffee, cheese, and alcohol. These items can dry out your mouth and inhibit saliva production, which will cause bad breath.
Avoid Smoking
We all know smoking is awful for your health, but it also causes bad breath. Whether it’s cigarettes, cigars, vape pens, or anything else, smoking leaves residue and dries out the membranes in the mouth, which causes bad breath.
Use an Oral Rinse or Mouthwash
Using an oral rinse or mouthwash a few times a day can help kill bacteria and the smell of certain foods. Even though it’s a temporary fix, a quick rinse after eating can give you the confidence to carry on with your day.
Visit Your Dentist Regularly
