Tips for a Healthy Set of Teeth

Most of us are reluctant to go to the dentist. Usually, it culminates from your childhood fears of injections and other tools used by the dentists. But we all know that visiting a top dentist in Chalfont is very important for our oral and dental health. Keep your teeth in the best health condition not only for having your teeth or a longer period of time but also for your overall health.

Common Parenting Questions: Pediatric Dentistry

We all want to have a bright smile and a nice even set of teeth. But great teeth don’t just happen. They require a lot of care and attention. Along with regular checkups, there are plenty of things you can do yourself to keep that smile looking vibrant and healthy.

Brush Often and Brush Well

This one won’t surprise anybody, but that doesn’t make it any less important. Ideally, you want to brush after every meal, but make sure you do it at least 2 or 3 times a day. Use soft bristles that won’t damage your gums and if you’re unsure if you’re doing it properly, have your dental hygienist give you a quick demonstration. Use toothpaste with fluoride and change your toothbrush every three months.

Floss Regularly

Another one that isn’t too shocking, but is often overlooked. Flossing reduces plaque, removes food particles and promotes healthy gums.

Minimize Your Sugar Intake

Sugar is one of the most harmful substances for teeth. But don’t be fooled into thinking that sugar is only in chocolate bars and Halloween candy. It is actually found in many foods that don’t immediately come to mind. It pays to check ingredients for sugar and glucose to see which foods you should be keeping an eye on.

Avoid Tobacco Products

As if there weren’t already enough reasons to quit smoking, you can also add your teeth to the list. Not only will smoking or chewing tobacco turn your teeth yellow, but these activities can also lead to gum disease.

Eat Fruits and Vegetables

Consume those plant foods, especially firm ones that serve to scrub your teeth through the biting and chewing process. It is a particularly good idea to include them as part of lunch if you won’t get a chance to brush until you get home later in the day.

Drink Milk

Getting your recommended daily dose of calcium is crucial to keeping your teeth strong and healthy.

It is important to maintain your teeth as well as you can throughout the year, but there is still no substitute for regular dental checkups. Call the pros at Highpoint Dental in Philadelphia to book your next appointment!
